I enjoy a laptop with a wireless card for the internet and be interested in getting a printer/copier/scanner/fax...b... lacking a traditional land-line I don't know if it's possible. My laptop has a 56k ITU V.92 fax/modem, but I'm not that scientific so I don't know how it relates.

lacking phone line its impossible, u can single send via internet using net2fax for example.
I never hear of any physical unit (printer/copier/scanner/fax) that can convey fax without a handset line. That's lately impossible. Your best bet is to use a fax software. As far as I know, and I've tried sending fax via my broadband, it can't go through. I be only competent to fax with a land-line.
