laser printers?

The actual process of laser printing is a bit complicated, but the consumables are both the toner (the fine powder that acts similar to the ink) cartridges and the electrostatic light-sensitive drum that transfers it onto the paper (they don't closing forever). Be aware that both of these are VERY expensive.
toner is (ink) then its baked on to the newspaper with a heated roller
1) Yes, the "toner" powder is the "ink", so to speak, contained by the cartridge.

2) Generally the drum and toner are engineered to be within a single user-replaceable "cartridge". There are some that have separate toner bottles and drums, such as Kyocera EcoPrint, which have a ceramic "almost infinite pages" drum, but that costs more.

3) Consummable... Usually only the cartridge, occasionally there's the ozone filter.
